WHAT YOU DID
Since I had a tiny budget to work with, it was clear with what I had to do. I had to focus on earning links in order to gain visibility in search engines. In order to earn those sweet links, I focused on a couple of strategies including reverse engineering competitor links, link reclamation, and product reviews. Since Oubly was a newcomer to the printing industry, product reviews from authoritative websites were especially crucial. It is easier to persuade people to try your product if the reviews come from sources that are credible.
I am not sponsored by Ahrefs, but I love to use their Backlink Profile tool. From my experience, backlinks still play a major factor in ranking a website. With Ahrefs, I am able to look at the backlink profile of high ranking competitors and use their own links against them. What I mean is that you once you know where your competitors are acquiring their links, an individual can perform an outreach campaign with hopes of earning the same links as well. Get an Ahrefs subscription, you won’t regret it. Google analytics is also a valuable tool in my arsenal, and it should be part of your arsenal as well. For the Oubly project, our conversion rate was at a dismal 1.3% when we first launched. After looking over the Google analytics data, my team and I decided to make slight changes to see if we could improve the conversion rate. It was an ongoing process but we did manage to improve the conversation to 2.5% within two months.
When I started my SEO career back in 2012, features such as local 3 pack results, carousel image results, and knowledge graph results were not a thing. You can’t get away from these results when performing search queries, it’s another obstacle to compete with apart from competitor websites. Let’s be brutally honest, Google and other search engines have no obligations to digital marketers. Search engines don’t give top billing to garbage sites. I believe it’s better to invest time in providing high-quality content and experiences that meet or surpass the expectations of your intended audiences rather than finding ways of gaming the system.
I am happy with the results of the project, and what is important is that the owners are satisfied as well. 76% growth of organic traffic which led to a 257% increase in sales in the first year with no signs of stopping anytime soon.
Anyone who enters the SEO industry should have the following qualities, patience and consistency. The marketing efforts of an SEO are not instant. If you’re working on a website that just started out, it is possible not to see any progress in your search engine ranking even six months into your endeavor. Don’t lose hope and don’t stop any of your link building efforts. All of the link building that you do is building a foundation for eventual ranking. Your goal is to train search engines, by continuing a pattern of high-quality links to your website.
