How did you get your idea or concept for the business? What problems were you trying to solve?
We are always flooded in the Philippines. In fact, we experience typhoons more or less 21 times every year. That’s how we came up with an Emergency Management Application.
As a technopreneur, has there been any situations where you wanted to give up? How did you overcome this feeling?
Yes. But when I do, I pause and think deeply. I am reminded of the vision and the exciting future upfront.
What key things should an innovator focus on demonstrating when looking to connect with a technology leader such as yourself?
Grit and Passion are the two key areas that one innovator should cultivate. When looking for solutions to a problem through technology, always have a mindset and focus on customer-centric product/solution.
I see that your team is composed of people from different locations across continents. How do you qualify people to bring into your team?
First thing, they should have belief and faith on the company vision. Second, they should have an entrepreneurial mindset.
Do you believe there is some sort of pattern or formula to making this digital enterprise a success? If yes, what is it?
The formula and pattern to success is always taking action. Procrastination kills the possibility of successful venture.
What advice would you give to a new starter who is looking to create their own software product?
Validate, Validate and Validate by going out of the building. Ask questions to a lot of people before even writing a single code.
Tudlo, which means ”To Teach, To Guide and To Point“ in Cebuano Language, is a mobile and web application that was initially developed for disaster awareness and management. It is, at its core, a solution to help people cope with unexpected and uncontrollable events and conditions that affect one’s life: Traffic, Road Conditions, Emergencies, Disasters, and Catastrophes. These events can potentially endanger lives, disrupt operations, cause environmental damage and bring significant change to day-to-day living. In line with this, knowledge of such events is becoming more important to a lot of people. Knowledge allows one to react appropriately, be it through the exercise of proper disaster protocol, by taking alternative routes, or simply being able to inform one’s family and friends.
Tudlo is a Smart DevNet with the following recognitions: Disaster and Emergency Response App Winner 2012, Ideaspace Finalist 2013, IBM ASEAN SmartCamp 2013, ITU World Telecom Winner 2013, Ericsson Mobile Finalist 2014, and Energy Globe National Award 2016.
Today, Tudlo empowers organisations and individuals through Social Innovation using the latest web and mobile technology to make social impact for a secure, safer and smarter society. Tudlo platform is an end-to-end solution where content publishers provide relevant guides on traffic, road conditions, emergencies and disaster; submit news feeds to government agencies; report events to concerned citizens; locate key establishments such as clinics, hospitals, police station and evacuation sites; and provide analytics and statistics on every situation. Tudlo, by providing reliable and up-to-date information to its customers, will address these issues and will help individuals to take appropriate decisions when traffic, emergencies, hazardous road obstructions, and disasters occur.
