Ok, since this blog is new, it is probably a good idea to introduce myself properly…
My name is Matt Bowd and I play in lots of spaces! I truly believe that life is a gift and I intend to get the most out of it. Sounds cheesy I know, but it’s true!
Where do I play?
First and foremost, I am a committed family man. From my wonderful fiancé and our daughter (and another little bundle of joy on the way!) to my parents, sister and brother, and huge extended family, I am very lucky to be part of a loving and happy family unit. They fully support my goals of making the World a better place and often are right by my side on the journey.
I am the founder and CEO of VE People a unique Virtual Staffing Company with a philanthropic edge that challenges the “profit at all costs” paradigm. Much of the lessons shared on this blog come from my time building VE People. The team I have built there are like a second family to me.
I am the owner of Varanasi Estate Farm, a 50 acre property in Victoria, Australia dedicated to sustainability and healthy living. It is where I nurture ideas and plants- all at the same time! Now that’s multi-tasking ☺
I perform Senior Consulting work through a great company called DB Results. With a fantastic organisational culture and excellent leadership, DB is a great place to keep learning amongst a group of wonderful people.
Over the years I have built a great network of people in Corporate, Consulting, Sustainability and Virtual circles and am genuinely excited for the opportunities that are available to people all across the World. Sure we have some challenges that we are facing but at no time are we better equipped to address these. I want to be a part of that.
What Do I Do?
I put people first. Where ever I can. I strongly believe that an empathetic and humanistic approach complemented by education and empowerment will achieve far greater results than a punitive and dictatorial management style. I believe that most people, given the right tools, will do the right thing.
I have worked in several countries for long enough periods to classify myself as a local. Whether it is India or the Philippines, my extended networks and friendships run deep. The VE People team has proudly had team members located in Australia, India, The Philippines, United States of America, Greece, Kenya, Vietnam, China Bangladesh, Pakistan, United Kingdom, Russia, Ukraine, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and Egypt. This serves the hiring philosophy we have always had in place – “get the right person for the role” – and has created a truly multi-cultural flavour within our Company.
I always find that travel stimulates ideas, breeds tolerance and creates opportunity. Any chance I get, I travel to get the creative juices flowing.
So what does all this mean though for what I do?
It’s simple – I build great teams, whether they are virtual or physical, that are based on empowerment, collaboration, and people. I build those teams either for my clients or for my own projects depending on what I am doing at the time.
I strongly believe that if you treat people right, they will pass it along and in turn improve their own surroundings. A great way to make the World just a little better.
I have a keen interest in many topics and try and devour books as fast as I can get my hands on them. My areas of interest are:
- Digital Marketing
- Leadership (particularly in the Virtual space)
- Management (also, particularly in the Virtual space)
- Project Management
- Social Entrepreneurship
- Human Rights
You will find me on Twitter tweeting every day about these and other topics. Feel free to come and follow me and join in the conversation.
I look forward to engaging with you all and hope you enjoy the blog!
